Anouk’s Whole30 story: “I had made giant progress, unnoticed by me”
"Let us change your life", that is the claim we stake (in Dutch) on the front page of this site. We make that claim in reference to our Whole30 coaching... and it's a big thing to claim, right? We only make the claim because we know the program can live up to it.
Okay, many people need more than 1 round of Whole30 to make the giant change: in health, in habits, in their relationship with food. Change is hard, but also so worth it!
Whole30-er Anouk also had to get after her results and change, she had to work for it. But in 2,5 years time, she made "gigantic progress". Physical, but in her 3rg round of Whole30 she achieved a lot of insight into her relationship with food: "I used to be very hard on myself every day for the ‘wrong’ things that I ate. If I now eat something that does not fit within the Whole30, then that is usually a conscious choice and I no longer feel guilty. I feel Food freedom is at my fingertips."
With pride we let Anouk tell you her Whole30 story in her own word:
"The Whole30 made me especially aware of how my body reacts to food. I did a Whole30 for the first time 2.5 years ago with guidance from HealthCreators. We immediately turned that into a Whole90 because of my condition, endometriosis. My condition gave me a lot of problems with my intestines and my immune system, which is why the effect of good nutrition could take a little more time to manifest.
My patience was indeed put to the test, sometimes my health did not seem to progress at all or progression was very slow. But if I look back in time to 2.5 years ago, a lot has changed.
A good example of this is that the dietitian from my hospital did a test 8 months ago and that showed my gut intake and blood sugar levels turned out to be very good. She had never actually seen that in an endometriosis patient.
So after 2.5 years of pushing through barriers and searching for the right balance, the result was that I had made giant progress, unnoticed by me.
Meanwhile, I have just finished my third Whole30. And every time I learn new things about physical and mental reactions, and how they are connected.
The first time I learned a lot about the types of food that I respond negatively to. I also learned more on this the second and third round.
But more importantly, I learned to identify my physical and emotional triggers that make me want to grab foods that aren't necessarily my best choices.
My last Whole30 included one-on-one sessions with my Whole30 coach Brenda. I feel that I now have the right tools to make the right choices in difficult moments.
I am super happy with how I eat now. It feels good that my food and drinks are as clean and natural as possible. My relationship with food has improved. I used to be very hard on myself every day for the ‘wrong’ things that I ate. If I now eat something that does not fit within the Whole30, then that is usually a conscious choice and I no longer feel guilty. I feel Food freedom is at my fingertips.
Eventually, you have to go through such a process yourself, but I really could not have succeeded without my great coach Brenda. She is incredibly dedicated, and she is always there when I need her. She often 'puts her finger on the sore spot' when I get stuck somewhere, which is a Dutch expression for giving tough love, heavy on the love. She knows how to turn a moment where I would usually be hard on myself in a learning moment. She also taught me how I can turn these moments into learning moments myself, and that it is a process of trial and error. In addition, I received tools from her via email that helped me dealing with these kinds of learning moments even better.
Because of her her good guidance in the form of daily online coaching, reactions in the private Facebook group, webinars, telephone conversations, coaching conversations and her 'NutritionSchool' I am now going to find out if I can manage to stand on my own feet. And that's easier because I know that I can always turn to Brenda when I get stuck again."
